Transports

From the airport

By train
There are very frequent trains (every 10 minutes) from the airport to Manchester Piccadilly train station, which is located in the city centre. The train journey takes 20 minutes. Check train timetables and fares at National Rail.

By bus
Bus number 43 connects the airport to the city centre (Piccadilly Gardens) and to Oxford Road. The bus journey takes approximately one hour. You can plan your journey and check timetables and routes at Transport for Greater Manchester.

From the train station (Manchester Piccadilly)

Manchester Piccadilly train station is very close to the city centre of Manchester. There are two exits from the station. One is in front of the platforms. If you exit from here, you can easily follow London Road, which will lead you (7-minute walk) to Piccadilly Gardens, where most buses depart for Oxford Road and the university (bus numbers: 42, 142, 43, 143). The second exit from the station is situated downstairs and can be reached through the escalators. If you exit from here, aim for the railway bridge on your left in Fairfield Street, where you can find the bus stop of service 147, which will take you directly to the university.

Oxford Road

The University of Manchester, including the venue of the symposium (University Place), is situated along Oxford Road. Buses are very frequent. Services 42, 142, 43, 143 run from/to Piccadilly Gardens. Service 147 runs from/to Manchester Piccadilly train station. While the routes of the services are fixed, the bus companies which run them vary (Stagecoach, Magic Bus, Finglands), and so do ticket fares.
